This important new course leads the adult and secondary school student who is an absolute beginner to fluent English through four integrated books. Each of the four books can, however, be used independently of the others and can indeed be entered at any point. The course will be found particularly suitable for adult students in need of remedial work; schools and language institutes where wastage caused by irregular attendance is a problem and students who wish to study on their own. The basic aim of the course are: to train the student in the four skill of understanding, speaking, reading and writing; to provide the student with a course that will enable him to use the language; and to enable the student work entirely from a single volume without the need for additional practice books. The new concept introduced by the author to achieve these aims is particularly that of the multi-purpose text which is used as a basis for aural comprehension, oral practice, reading, oral composition, dictation, controlled comprehension précis and composition practice, and written grammar exercises in recall.
